Managing Stress & Finding Opportunity

Hey, beautiful souls!

Feeling constantly stressed and overwhelmed with building a business while trying to balance home life? I'm with ya, sister!

As a salon owner and a busy mom, I know stress is inevitable. Here’s how I navigate those overwhelming moments and turn them into opportunities for growth and success.

Sitting with My Feelings

As women we often keep these feelings to ourselves for fear of judgment or appearing weak but i say, T'HELL with that! Feel those feelings girl! Whenever I feel stressed, I allow myself to sit with my emotions. It usually starts with feeling pissed off, then overwhelmed, and anxious. Often, I need a good cry to release all that frustration. It's important to acknowledge and process these feelings before moving forward.

Finding Quiet and Reflecting

Next, I find a quiet space and close my eyes. I take a few moments to figure out what my "story" is surrounding the stressful situation. By first establishing the "story" Im telling myself and asking what role i have in this story, it helps me gain perspective and empower me to gain control of what will happen next.

Seeking Gratitude and Control

I always aim to find gratitude in my life, even during stressful times. Revealing the blessings in your life helps me to bring my anxiety down and bring clarity to what opportunities I have in front of me.

Transitioning to Opportunity

Once I've centered myself, I start looking for areas of opportunity. Let me give you an example from my life as a stylist:

Dealing with Gaps in the Schedule

It's incredibly frustrating to have gaps in your schedule because that means you are not getting paid for that time. The beauty industry can be unpredictable, and finding consistency is a challenge. But when faced with gaps, I shift my mindset to find opportunities:

1. Revenue Opportunities: What type of appointment can I fill this gap with? What's the potential revenue for that open appointment time? Market Ahead of time for that specific service or reach out to current clients for referrals. You could also consider moving up appointments that are booked for a week or two out.

2. Marketing Efforts: Social Media Marketing is like a 2nd full time job am I right? Utilize the gap in your books for the tasks you often wish you had time for.

REMEMBER TO KEEP THESE TASKS SIMPLE!

Marketing can be overwhelming, so I break it down into manageable tasks, for example:

- Make a post today.

- Update my Instagram profile.

- Create 1 reel for tomorrow.

- Watch 1 video on how to schedule content.

These tasks take longer than expected, which often leads to feeling stressed and giving up or not doing it at all. But dedicating 1-2 or even 3-4 hours to these tasks without distraction makes a huge difference.

Staying Focused

DON'T get distracted by scrolling or consuming more content that makes you feel behind. Focus on today's measurable task, and don't worry about tomorrow's to-do list or what you'll need to accomplish after work.

Seeing Progress

By staying focused on the task at hand, you'll start to see progress. Even when life happens and stressors arise, you'll have proof of what you've accomplished. This helps you stay calm and continue moving towards your goals.
